Basic Aspects of the Relapse Prevention in the Drug Rehab of Alcohol Rehab in Massachusetts
Without an extensive program for relapse prevention, alcohol or drug addiction is meaningless. The state of Massachusetts very well understands this requirement. There is a very elaborate detox program in Massachusetts but the state knows very well that this program needs to be kept up with a relapse prevention program in the aftercare therapy for it to be substantiated. Hence, the state has also formulated an extensive relapse prevention strategy, which is now part of the addiction treatment program in Massachusetts.
The following is the basic approach towards relapse prevention in the state.
When the person is out of the inpatient treatment program in Massachusetts, he or she is enrolled into the aftercare program. The first thing that is emphasized in this aftercare program is that the treatment is far from over. The patient is made to understand that a re-addiction can happen anytime if care is not taken. When this point is firmly driven home, the prevention education is begun.
The patient is taught to understand what factors can cause a relapse into the addiction and then is trained on how to avoid these factors. A very strong emphasis is laid on joining work or at least some constructive hobby or sport so that the mind is taken away from the urge for the substance. Subsequently, the family of the patient is also trained and counseled on how they must cope with the situation. They are told what they must do in case there is a relapse in the patient.
In this way, working at various levels, addiction treatment in Massachusetts helps people overcome possibilities of relapse after the treatment.
