Statistics on Drug Abuse and Alcohol Abuse in Kansas
Agencies such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration have been looking in the trends of substance abuse in Kansas regularly to see how the situation is placing itself. The last major program for such a statistical analysis was conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the state in the year 2004. This study was pertaining to the number of people taking admissions into various centers for drug and alcohol rehab in Kansas in that year. The following are some of the findings of this study:-
1. There were totally 15,495 admissions to different centers of rehab treatment in Kansas in the year. Considering that the total population of the state in that year was 2,738,356, it means that every 1 in 176 persons needed rehab treatment in the state in that year.
2. Alcohol addiction was not as prominent in Kansas as it was in other states of the nation. Out of the total people who sought rehabilitation treatment in Kansas, only 18.6% were those who checked in due to their alcohol addiction problems. However, this number does not include the people who checked in for problems with alcohol and another substance in combination.
3. The three main drug addictions in the state were marijuana addiction, cocaine addiction and heroin addiction. The prevalence of marijuana addiction was the highest while that of the heroin addiction in Kansas was the lowest. It was found that 24.9% of the people who checked in for rehab treatment were addicts of marijuana, 16.2% were addicts of cocaine and merely 0.4% were addicted to heroin.
