What Does Drug Addiction Treatment Intervention Entail as Part of their Aftercare
Most people think that the only purpose an intervention program achieves is to encourage the patient to sign in for a drug rehab treatment program. But this does not even scratch the surface of the entire intervention program. There is a lot that the intervention specialists will do during and after the treatment.
While the patient is in the treatment center, the interventionists will keep track of how the treatment program is going. They will check up on the patient often, and will even send progress reports of the treatment to the patient’s family if they ask for it. They will also play an important part in deciding the length of the treatment program to be followed and when the patient should be discharged.
Even on the day of discharge, an intervention specialist can agree to escort the patient back home from the treatment center. This becomes very useful when the patient is trying to orient his or her life back to normal. The same or another interventionist or a sober companion sent by them will agree to stay with the patient at home for any pre-decided length of time, till the patient feels comfortable and returns back to routine life.
A very important aspect of the drug intervention aftercare program is to counsel the patient and the family on what kinds of care must be taken so that there is no relapse and no urge for the substance again. This is known as sober living. The intervention’s work is only truly over when the patient has made his or her true return to sobriety
