Why is Youth Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction in South Dakota such a Serious Issue?
About four in every five youth already have their first tryst with alcohol abuse in South Dakota by the time they are out of their high schools. This could be through a few drinks with friends or even through a full-blown binging session where these youth may consume as many as five drinks at a time. Looking at these numbers, it is quite easy to understand that the main problem of alcohol addiction in South Dakota comes from the cases of youth taking up the addiction so easily.
What makes the issue more difficult is that youth who get into alcoholism will very soon want to get into other forms of addiction. The most common secondary addiction that these youth may want to try out is marijuana because it is so easily available in South Dakota. Once these people have become used to marijuana too, they might be tempted to try out more aggressive drugs such as cocaine and even heroin. And we must not forget the drug that is really sapping the youth of the nation today, which is methamphetamine. Methamphetamine addiction in South Dakota is mostly concentrated within the youth population. In most cases, this is combined with an alcoholism problem, which makes the whole issue quite serious.
The reason teen alcoholism is so serious in South Dakota is because of the fact that these people will be the future ruling generation of the nation. With such great prevalence of alcoholism in them, the situation definitely seems to be quite dire.
